Branching Scenario Activity
Role: Product Designer

FINAL DESIGN
Let me illustrate how a Branching Scenario interactivity can be seamlessly crafted for instructional materials, emphasizing the pivotal aspect of simplifying the creation process. In a collaborative effort with a front-end developer, we conceptualized and developed an HTML builder that mirrors the functionalities of both Omnigraffle and Origami, ensuring an intuitive and user-friendly experience for instructional designers.

The HTML builder serves as a dynamic platform where instructional designers can effortlessly create branching nodes within the scenario. The emphasis here is on simplicity, allowing designers to intuitively map out diverse learning paths without the need for intricate technical knowledge.

Upon completion of the scenario, the designer can seamlessly export an HTML build, presenting a versatile and standalone interactive module. This exported HTML content can be effortlessly inserted into various learning materials, offering a plug-and-play solution for integration into different educational platforms or content management systems.

This innovative approach not only simplifies the creation process but also enhances the flexibility of integrating branching scenarios into diverse learning environments. It empowers instructional designers to bring engaging and interactive learning experiences to life, fostering a more dynamic and effective educational journey for learners.

PROBLEM
Instructional designers consistently produce dull content, hindering user engagement. To address this, designers need the freedom to create dynamic, interactive learning activities. The current problem restricts creativity, limiting adaptation to various learning styles. This affects user motivation and retention, undermining the desired learning outcomes.

Furthermore, the gap between designers and modern learners exacerbates the issue. Users, accustomed to interactive experiences, find traditional materials uninspiring. There's a growing demand for a more agile approach to align with learner expectations.

ASSUMPTIONS

PROPOSED SOLUTION
Develop a sophisticated branching scenario activity to offer an immersive choose-your-own-adventure simulation for enhanced learning experiences. This dynamic activity should allow users to make decisions that impact the narrative, fostering critical thinking and decision-making skills.

Additionally, design a user-friendly interface builder to streamline the process for instructional designers. This tool should eliminate the need for extensive coding, providing a visual and intuitive platform where designers can effortlessly create, customize, and manage branching scenarios. By reducing the technical barriers, this interface builder empowers instructional designers to focus on the creative and pedagogical aspects of content development.

Ensuring compatibility with various Learning Management Systems (LMS) is crucial for seamless integration into existing educational frameworks. The branching scenario activity should be adaptable to different LMS platforms, promoting accessibility and ease of use for educators across diverse settings.

Furthermore, prioritize inclusivity by optimizing the activity for all devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. This responsiveness ensures that learners can access the simulation regardless of their preferred device, fostering flexibility and accommodating varied learning preferences.

The proposed solution involves the creation of a branching scenario activity enriched with a choose-your-own-adventure simulation. Complementing this, a user interface builder empowers instructional designers, freeing them from intricate coding tasks. The overarching goal is to make the activity seamlessly integrate with any Learning Management System while prioritizing inclusivity across a spectrum of devices for a comprehensive and engaging learning experience.

VISUAL EXPLORATION
In my quest to simplify the creation of branching scenarios, my focus was on developing an uncomplicated interface that resonates with instructional designers. Recognizing the familiarity of instructional designers with Omnigraffle, I opted to leverage its user-friendly layout, aiming to maintain simplicity while enhancing functionality.

The design of the builder integrates Meta's Origami format, strategically constructing elements and connecting them through distinct nodes. This approach not only aligns with the familiar Omnigraffle layout but also offers a structured and intuitive way to build branching scenarios. The utilization of nodes ensures that each adventure's path is clearly delineated, facilitating easy customization by instructional designers.

By adopting this approach, the builder empowers designers to effortlessly navigate and manipulate the branching scenario's structure, fostering a seamless and efficient content creation process. The combination of Omnigraffle's layout familiarity and Meta's Origami format brings together the best of both worlds, providing a user-friendly yet powerful tool for instructional designers to craft engaging choose-your-own-adventure simulations.
